North Star Treasures :: About Us
| About Us |
Finally, a business with a name and face....
What sets us apart from many other retailers is that one of our primary
goals is to give you a personal shopping experience. We do not hide
impersonally behind our business name and website, in an effort to
shirk responsibility and hide behind bad service. Instead, we realize
that an essential part of establishing and maintaining good customer
service is to put a name and face to our business, and therefore take
accountability for each and every business transaction!

Meet the Lybberts...
With that in mind, North Star Treasures is a family-owned business--created and operated by Alisa & Jared Lybbert.
If you have ever visited our physical reta
il location in
Skagway,
Alaska,
then you have undoubtedly met us, and perhaps have been lucky enough to
also meet our little 2.5 year old girl, Ella (currently our only
employee
)!
Since neither of us grew up in Alaska, many customers ask us how and
why we made the move to Alaska. The truth is, it all happened by
accident when we were in college. We originally met one summer in
Skagway, a small but lively cruise ship destination in Southeast
Alaska, where Alisa was recruited by a local theatre production ("The
Days of '98 Show") to be a Can-Can girl for the summer (Yes, it's
true!), and Jared was recruited by Gray Line of Alaska to drive coach
tours throughout Alaska and the Yukon. Not only did we both fall in
love with the community of Skagway and the simplicity of life in
Alaska, but that similar love soon stirred our hearts to melt as one
(Oh...how cute!).
As the years passed, we returned each summer to work in Skagway, or
what we came to refer to the "Real World." It's a far cry from the
hustle and bustle of traffic down South, and we have realized that
coming to Skagway each summer helps us re-focus our priorities, and
get back down to the important basics of life (Love, Family, Faith). For several years Alisa worked
various retail management positions through town, and Jared continued
to drive tour buses.
The beginning of a wonderful business...

We had always wanted to own our own business, and
Polish Pottery (an obsession begun by Alisa's mom) seemed to always
loom in the back of our minds. When we learned that our first child was
on the way, we decided it was time to start our own small business,
which would allow us to bring our child to work with us as a newborn.
When Ella was just four weeks old, we opened our Polish Pottery
Specialty Store in a small location in Skagway, Alaska. Ella has grown
up in the business, and now at 2 1/2, she isn't afraid to re-arrange
pottery shelves (always helping... haha!), scan purchases, and even
assist in the packaging (or should I say un-packaging?) of pottery
shipments. She loves meeting new customers just as much as we do, and
the three of us are thrilled to share our love of Polish Stoneware with
the world!
|
We've had the opportunity to expand our business over the years, and if
you've recently been to our store in Skagway, you know that we now sell
many more unique gifts from around the world.
However, our roots are in Polish Pottery, and in order to feed our own
obsession, and the cravings of other collectors, we offer a huge
selection of Polish Pottery online (much more than is on display in our
retail store). All of
our stoneware is stored in a warehouse in the Eastern States, and
shipped directly to you. This allows us to save you money by not
shipping all of our product first to Alaska (expensive!), and then back
out to customers. We pride ourselves in affordable and fast shipping!

Our Commitment to you...
Most importantly, we are here to serve you! If you have questions about
Polish Pottery, or even Alaska, cruising, or visiting Skagway, please
feel free to drop us a line. We value the friendships we have made with
customers over the years, and hope that we will soon have the
opportunity to help you continue collecting, or begin collecting Polish
Stoneware! Thanks for letting us share our wonderful products with you!
